Blog Journal 10

During the service learning that I have done through FSU's College of Education, I saw a middle school teacher using a survey as a quiz tool. I do not remember the name of the software she was using, but it was basically just a quiz software that she used after her students read a passage in their textbook. The students all had individual laptops open to that website and answered the questions, then she went over it. Another software just like that one is called Kahoot that I have also used a few times in my FSU COE classes. This is much more environmentally friendly, as well as quicker, saving valuable class time. I think this is a great use of data collection software as it allows teachers to get an understanding of how much their students payed attention to, absorbed, and applied the lesson that was taught to them. I would also use this software at the end of the year to see how students liked my class, the assignments, my teaching style, etc. Excel is also a great tool to keep track of student attendance and student grades!

After reviewing my classmates blogs, I found their opinions about the Flipped Classroom concept to be most interesting. Some seemed to have a little misguided information about the teaching style leading to negative views. Most, though, drew from their own personal experiences about how their past teachers used this style and it was effective or how they wished they had encountered this because it would have been beneficial to them.

I think the technology that I would like to learn more about next would be making videos. I had to make a video for another class and I really struggled with it. There is so much new technology for making videos now and I am so out of date with it! As a teacher, this skill would help me to make instructional videos for my students. It would also help me if I give my students an assignment that require them to use this technology, I could answer their questions and help them.
